Cool, was how the night felt- calm, relaxing, spacious. It felt as if there were a thousand eyes peering down on you, but none of them saw you. They were just there to light your way- guidance in the darkest of times. Among a small cluster of stars hung the moon- glorious in it's appearance. Size, monstrous- compared to the past night. Spring time was a captivating time- full of new smells and new life, everything always felt brand new as if someone had come through during the winter and swept up all the ick and grime.
Taboo envied the night- how it could be so calm all the time, seeming to have no qualms with the world of which it shadowed. He wished he could be such. A light breeze blew from the south, sending the grass on the knoll into waves like that found on the ocean. Crickets scurried here and there as they tried to hide from the oncoming onslaught- clinging to each blade of grass as if it were their last will and testament. Funny- last will and testament, he thought he was going to be having his if it were not for the other night. Shapeshifter, is that what his Alphess had called him? What did it mean- and why could he not control this shifting?
It always came at the worse times- thankfully he had been spared since daylight of this day- the transformation was agonizing and embarrassing for others to see. He felt as if he lost any dignity after someone witnessed the event. Nose raised towards the nebula above- leathery skin quivering as he took in the evening smells.
'Dream creature...'
Was he a 'dream creature'? That was what the male Nifth had called him at first- he couldn't blame him though; no doubt any of the wolves he had met so far had ever seen a shifter. Shifter. It was still a funny word to think about- he had a title, a title that could be mistaken for witchcraft; and he knew in some packs they burned witchcraft practitioners- even if they couldn't control what was happening to them. He would, one day. He just knew it.
Taboo closed Imperial eyes- lungs intaking as much of the night air as they could. Concetrate And concentrate he did- he would figure this out, beat it, and find someway to use it to his advantage. He would be the master of his fate- the thought sent a shiver up his spine. He had never been the master of anything.

Every night one could find the Martyr Alphess here, staring up at the sky. Out of all the places in her packlands, she loved this one the best. She loved watching the lights play against the sky, and when twilight set in... This particular night's sunset had been lovely. Reds, golds, blues, and soft golden yellows had drenched the sky in all its glory. As she watched the stars appear in the velvety sky, she sighed. She always loved the night sky. Something about it... was calming.
Life quite recently had be chaotic. So many new wolves, she didn't know what to do. Nalia was new at this Alphess business, and sometimes she felt overwhelmed. She was flattered that Amorin believed she could do the pack good. But Nalia honestly didn't know if she could. Despite her mother always preparing her for this, she was at a loss of what exactly to do. All she could do right now was accept those who wished to be into her pack and hope she was doing what was right. The Alpha didn't seem to mind, and well, that's all she really could do.
Blue eyes closed and opened at the scent of a new wolf. The scent was only recently familiar, that of her current puzzlement. Taboo was the newest addition to Martyr, one that she found puzzling and endearing all at the same time. Their first meeting had been... quiet interesting. Nalia was use to strange things happening - but Shape-shifting bunny-wolves was definitely not on that list. The Alphess had almost thought she was dreaming - she knew Nifth had thought Taboo was some sort of dream or something. But, no, Taboo was no dream. Just a very confused wolf.
For a long moment, the Alphess simply watched Taboo, wondering if it was a good idea to talk to him. He looked deep in thought, and she didn't want to interrupt him. She knew what it was like to have a power you couldn't control. Nalia's empathy always worked, whether she wanted to or not. Some days it was worse than others. Today, it wasn't so bad, and she shrugged mentally. Taboo could always tell her to leave if she was bothering him. Walking on near-silent paw steps, she approached the male.
“Good evening, friend Taboo.” she said quietly, tail swishing in the air lightly.

Speaking of the Alphess-- she was here, with him- on this grass knoll, beneath the stars. She was stunning- nebula reflecting in glass-like iris. The male would move over, making room for her to sit if she wished- but even if she declined he wouldn't mind. She was a strong woman, and a lot of people looked up to her. Taboo wished that someday he would be strong enough to stand up for himself and what he most believed in, the ones who were able to do that- well they seemed like they had a pep in their step.
"My Lady-" The man trailed off, head bowing out of courtesy. This shadowed woman was the reason he had a home this night. He owed her a lot, so much if he was any more crazy he might view her as a goddess. No- he was not going to fawn over her because she was a woman- but because she had power and happiness, strength to stand on her own and take charge of others lives. If anyone was the key to helping him find himself- it would probably be her.
"How are you doing this evening? I am sorry I did not hear you approach, I would have been more hospitable. You were quite nice to meet not too long ago, a frightened and shunned little boy." He smiled- corners of his mouth twerking upwards, if he dared to say so she was helping him in his path to becoming a man; he was still young and had much to learn. No, he had no idea how old she was and it was none of his business- she was his leader and that was what mattered. He would serve her until his dying breathe.

If Nalia knew the way in which Taboo viewed her, she probably would've been embarrassed. She honestly didn't think she was worthy of being the Alphess, though Amorin wouldn't hear anything of it. She was strong only because she relied on herself so much, trusting in other made her skittish. If anything, she was weak. But Nalia learned early on not to show that to anyone, or bad things would happen. But it was nice to know that she had the support of her followers. When he moved over on the knoll, she padded lightly over, sitting next to him, tail curling around her paws. She liked the new member of her pack greatly, even if eh was a bit odd. But, then again, who was she to talk?
"I'm quite well this evening. I love the night, and come here often." she said with a nod. Her eyes flickered back up to the sky. "It's beautiful here, don't you think?" At his words, Nalia had to smile. "Don't worry about it, friend Taboo. I sometimes forget how quietly I approach." She admitted with a sheepish flick of her ear. Nalia cocked her head to one side, and she shook her head. Nalia didn't see it that way - then again, she never saw things the way others saw it.
"Taboo, I genuinely like you. You are a strange wolf," she said, a mischievous twinkle in those blue depths, "but then again, all of us are. And your power is a gift, something that maybe we can help with. It's my job to help, as your Alphess... and a friend, if you so wish." Friends were rare for her, but she was genuine in her offer. Nalia's whole being was devoted to her pack, but she rarely made close bonds. But there was always exceptions to the rule.

Taboo nodded, great neck bending with the effort of holding up his rigid skull. The Alphess had a point- the place was beautiful, breathtaking almost and he would admit it to anyone. He loved nature- and astronomy. The stars and moon above held so many more secrets than one could hope to ever know- he was one who wanted to know all of the galaxy's secrets.
His gift? Was she joking? This was not a gift but a curse- at least until he learned to control it. Worry etched deep into his facial features- imperial eyes looking at the alphess with curious eyes. Confusion radiated off it off of him lie the stench of something raunchy. Maybe not literally, but mentally he was full of it.
His ears fell- almost lie he withdrew into a deep dark corner in the back of his mind, "But why me? I am a perfectly normal boy- with a decent home life; and my father decided I wasn't special anymore." His nose crunched inwards- it was a sad thought, he had no family and now he had a pack who might supposedly try to help him? How would they do that? Throw him from a mountain top?
He lifted his head- tilting it so he could look to his Alphess. The brute cleared his throat- addressing her as one would a Queen, "How can a pack help me? A shifter? I have not met any others who can do what I can- I cannot control my shift, and one day it will have me killed."

"Don't be stupid."
The words were out before she really thought about them, Nalia being her typical, brutally honest self. She did not tolerate that sort of talk, despite her friendliness to her packmate. Her blue eyes blazed as she looked at him, not really angry, but irritated. How could one think that of themselves? He was an important member of her pack - all of her pack was special. How could he think that it was going to get him killed? The confusion radiating off of him told her that Taboo was sincere, and that just infuriated her more.
"A pack means that we work together, Taboo, no matter how terrible your past is. We're your family now, we care. You cannot control your shift now, that's true. But no one is perfect in the beginning. Even I had problems with my powers when I was young! You just have to learn, first!" Her words were firm, though not sharp, and she met Taboo's eyes squarely. What she said, she fully believed in. Nalia remembered day after day, the practice she had gone through to control her powers. Even now, she didn't have full control. She felt his confusion about the shifting, his sadness when he spoke about how his father abandoned him. Everything. But she could keep if from driving her insane, and that was the important part. If she could, he could too.
Nalia softened her gaze, taking a deep breath. That had been harsh, but she wasn't going to take the back. She meant every word of it, and she wasn't about to soften the blow. Nalia did, however, sigh slightly. "Taboo, you aren't a freak. You're different. Being a Shifter is a gift, and of course it comes with it's price. But I'm sure you can deal with it. I have faith in you."

Nalia was so confident- not just about herself, but about him and her pack. She had called the pack, family. Family, how smoothly the word had coursed through his veins. Where would someone be without friends? The people to pick you up when you need lifting? We come from homes far from perfect, so we end up almost parent and sibling to our friends - our own chosen family. There's nothing like a really loyal, dependable, good friend. Nothing, and that is what a pack was...right? One big loyal, dependable, good friend? So close- so bonded when something shakes one of them, when something bothers one of them...it worries them all.
Taboo could feel her irritated- and his heart dropped. Imperial eyes rose to those of his alphess, "I am sorry my Queen. I suppose you are right- You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do, and when you succeed at it- it will push you farther...one day I will be able to do as you, and lead someone on the right path."
The male raised his head, if it were not for the stars above he wouldn't have seen the alphess sitting there- he wouldn't have felt her warmth if it wasn't for her kind heart. He was being oblivious, something that would not be good for him in the end. He had always heard that the strength of a pack was the wolf, and that the strength of a wolf was in his pack-- he had never gotten the chance to experience such a thing living with just his father.
"My Queen? What is your power?" The goddess had a power, as well as a power within herself, and over others- he would not be a fool to go against her. A strong-willed woman is a good ally, and he didn't agree with those who stereotyped women. The emotional, sexual, and psychological stereotyping of females begins when the shaman says, "It's a girl." No one ever thins she will be able to run a pack- but she can and she will, and Taboo rightfully praised them for showing everyone they were wrong.
