Fiametta's midnight colored fur revealed her location to any enemies that could be lurking in her icy territory. Her venetian eyes swept across the lands as she came nearer and nearer to the caverns. Often times she would come visit this place, trying to look for answers that she hadn't found just yet. The four year old female was curious about many things, wanting to know the answers to just about everything in the world. How the world had been destroyed and ripped apart, how it had separated into four realms. She wanted to know, because of all the stories she had been told by her mother. Until she died, that is.
Slipping inside the cavern, the Alphess followed the markers she had made when she had visited before. The labyrinth was a confusing place and she had only every found her way in once, so she figured that making markers would be a good idea. That way, she wouldn't get lost again. She had gouged out several chunks of ice in many places, leaving a trail to where those floating orbs were again. She wanted to know more about those orbs, not to mention about all the truth and lies behind the world. She wondered if she would be able to speak to the orbs, if they would return a reply.
"Hm..." She mused, entering the place where the orbs were. She stared. They were strange things, just floating there for no apparent reason. She sat down in front of them, staring because she couldn't fathom any reason why they would just be floating there. "If only they were alive..." She muttered to herself. "Then I could read their thoughts and find out why they're here." She waited, staring, wondering if anyone else could find their way through the cave.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i55.tinypic.com/rmk7cy.jpg] It had been a long journey for Bristol to get to the Cavern of Orbs. He had heard rumors about them, orbs floating in mid air in a cavern in the Frost Realm. He had to admit, he wasn't extremely excited about going up into the mountains where the snow could be over one's head and it was almost impossible to see where you were going or where you were since everything looked the same. White. But he was taking his chances today. He was feeling lucky.
He knew that it wouldn't be easy getting there and he hadn't been wrong. His large paws has started carrying him up the mountain but once he had hit the snow, he had resorted to shifting into his hawk form and flying up the mountain which had proved to be a very wise decision and he had been lucky enough to avoid any snow storms or avalanches. After circling the mountain top for what felt like the fiftith time, his light blue hawk eyes caught sight of a small entrance that had faint wolf tracks leading inside.
Guessing that was a good place to start looking for the orbs, he landed on a nearby tree that poked out of the snow before shifting back into wolf form. Shaking his fur out, he stretched a bit before padding through the deep snow and then making his way into the cavern. It took his eyes a minute to adjust to the dim light inside the cavern compared to the bright white outside but when they did he could see perfectly. Gazing around, he went deeper into the cavern, noticing hunks of ice missing all along the way. Shrugging he decided he might as well follow the trail and see where it led. The worst thing that could happen was that he would get lost in the caves and die of starvation or something. No big deal.
The path was a long one and as he continued onward, the scent of a female wolf became stronger and stronger and he guessed he was close until finally the tunnel opened up into a cavern where the orbs were. A look of awe was on Bristol's face for a brief moment before he hid his emotions, noticing at the same time that he was not alone. A she wolf was sitting in front of the orbs, gazing up at them as if waiting for them to speak to her or something. Confused, Bristol took a couple steps towards her before clearing his throat to let her know he was there. Stopping a few feet away from her, he tilted his head a bit as he watched her curiously. He had never seen her before and she had a distinct scent that he couldn't quite place.

Fiametta felt a sigh escape her throat and a small scowl adorn her face. There wasn't much to learn here, she decided, but she honestly couldn't help but sit there and stare at the floating orbs. They were intriguing to her and she wanted to know the very reason for their existence, just as she had often questioned her own. She wondered why the world was the way it was now. If there was any real reason behind it, she wanted to know. She felt she was curious, others thought she was nosy.
It wasn't long before Fiametta heard the thoughts of another wolf. A male, heading her way as well. She knew he was there and knew he was harmless. He was in her territory and she had the advantage here, no loner would beat her on her turf. She refused to let anyone bring harm to her pack, for she would be the one to protect them. It was her job, after all. She waited patiently for the wolf to enter the small cavern she was in, amused by his thoughts of awe. She gave a slight snort, then turned around to face him.
"I am Fiametta, Alphess of the Canopus Pack. This is my territory. Care to explain why you are on it?" Fiametta waited patiently for his answer. There was really no hostility in her voice at all, her fur was flat and her tail and ears were completely relaxed. Honestly, there wasn't much this wolf should be afraid of, except if she decided she wanted to attack him. Her blue eyes scanned over his body, taking in his every aspect. She wondered to herself, Friend or foe?

He was even more surprised that she was an alpha of the Canopus pack. He felt a sarcastic retort wanting to slip past his tongue but he held it in, knowing that wouldn't be the best idea right now. Especially since he was on her territory and would be in big trouble if he upset the alpha.
"I'm sorry to have intruded, I was unaware that this was any pack's territory. I simply came to get a glimpse at the orbs, they are quite mystical." he answered, his light blue eyes flickering from her to the orbs once more before turning back to her. Suddenly he realized that he hadn't even introduced himself to this high ranked wolf. Quickly trying to correct his mistake, he bowed a bit in front of her, unsure what the custom was for lower wolves to do since he hadn't been in a pack since he was a mere pup.
"I apologize for my rudeness. My name is Bristol." he added, standing up on all fours once more, his posture calm and friendly. Bristol didn't go looking to make enemies, especially enemies with an alphess. Plus it was always good to have friends in high places and Bristol was all about making friends right now.

Fiametta felt a small smile crawl onto her lips when he showed no hostility towards her. She was indeed right: he would be of no harm to her. Friends is what he wanted? Perhaps she would be one to befriend him. She cursed herself once again for reading his mind. She sometimes hated the fact that she had that power, she often felt intrusive when she did read other wolves' minds, let alone other creatures'. She gave a light sigh, "Yes, they are indeed mysterious. I often come here to figure out why they're here. Reading their minds wouldn't work, for I do not know if they're alive."
Fiametta gave a curt nod, taking note to his name when he gave a slight bow. It was unnecessary, but respectful. "Nice to meet you, Bristol. Next time, I'd be careful. You're lucky I'm not too aggressive about my territory. Had you meant harm here, I would have killed you." She turned back around to gaze longer at the orbs before her, not moving to take another step closer. As much as she was mesmerized by them, she didn't dare intrude upon their space. No one, not even her, knew what they were capable of or what they even did. There wasn't much to that mystery.
"Forgive me... My power happens to be reading minds. Unfortunately, it's not something I can just turn off. It's automatic, almost..." As useful as her power could be, Fiametta was aware that she was very intrusive when she used it. She hated being so intrusive, invading other wolves' minds and learning their darkest secrets. She hated doing it, but she honestly had no way of stopping it.

He smiled in reply to her and took a couple of steps towards the orbs until he was standing next to her. His light blue eyes gazed up at the floating orbs, tilting his head as he studied them for a bit longer before her words broke the trance they seemed to have on him and he turned his head to look at her as she spoke once more about the orbs.
He found himself wondering more about the orbs but when it didn't seem like he was going to find anything else out about them he turned his attention to her and found himself beginning to wonder about her. She was quite a beautiful she wolf and he was curious to know if there was a mate waiting for her back in the pack's camp. Knowing that probably wasn't the best thing to have his mind on, he pushed the thought to the back of his mind though felt his mind wander slightly back to it again. Her voice rang out through the cavern once more as she told him she had the power to read other's minds and he froze for a moment, remembering what he had just been thinking and realizing that she now knew what he had thought as well.
"It's alright, I too have a power though I am lucky to be able to control it most of the time. Powers can be both a gift and a burden." he answered, his voice softer as if to not want to disturb the orbs that floated near the two wolves. His light blue gaze glanced down at the ground before looking up at her once more, a smile raising one side of his mouth again.

Fiametta chuckled lightly at the thought he had just had. A mate? Yes, she had one. Reiko was the one male she respected enough to keep him as her mate, for he didn't seem to want to belittle her as a female, as the males in her previous pack had done. She loved him, there was no doubt in her mind about that. There was nothing anyone could do or say to change her way of thinking about him. "Don't be afraid of your thoughts, Bristol. I will not judge you. I often hear plenty of thoughts about me having a mate." She paused to drink in a breath. "I do have a mate, however, and I do love him."
She tensed slightly as he neared her, fur on her shoulders rising. She relaxed though, sensing that he wouldn't hurt her. Besides, if he tried she'd have to kill him. She did have something to fight for, after all. Not just her mate, but her pack as well. She listened intently to his words, agreeing silently that powers were both a burden and a gift. A gift in such that they were helpful in defending those close to her and a burden in such that she knew what everyone was doing, thinking, and what they planned on doing next. She truly hated intruding others' minds.
Fiametta nodded, "Yes, I will have to agree with you on that. Mine is a burden in such a way that I feel intrusive and it bothers me. However, it is a gift because I know what the enemy plans on doing before they even do it. That is the only way in which I find it useful." She sat there in the silence, continuing to watch the orbs float. She wasn't sure why they were there or what their purpose was, but, perhaps if she stayed awhile longer, she could find out.

He smile a bit embaressed before clearing his throat a bit and nodding when she informed him that she had a mate. Of course she did. How stupid could he be? A she wolf as pretty as her, running an entire pack had to have a male attached. What was he whining about anyways, it wasn't like he was the best choice for any female to pick as a mate. He was a flirt and that was it. He had never had a female he actually wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
Suddenly he realized once again that she knew everything he was saying right now and he stopped his thoughts, clearing his throat in embaressment once more. It was a new thing for him, knowing that the wolf sitting beside him could read his thoughts. He had never met a mind reader until now and he could understand how having that ability could be a burden a lot of the time.
"I have to say I am a bit luckier than most as my power I can control and it only affects me, not others. I got my powers when I was young and was able to have a lot of practice at controlling it which has proved to be a great advantage." he replied, not realizing until after he had spoken that she didn't know what his power was yet. He thought about telling her but decided if she wanted to know then she would ask him. He didn't want to sit here talking about himself the entire time he was in her presence. Though he had to admit it was nice to have someone to talk to. It had been awhile since he had met a wolf, especially a female that he could just talk to and not end up hitting on her.

Fiametta pondered silently, now too curious about this wolf to keep out of his head. She heard everything he thought of, and wondered why he was putting himself down. Surely he would find a female good enough for him out there. There were many wolves in the world, more than anyone could comprehend, and one of them was bound to see the beauty in his different personality. "You will find someone, my friend. Trust me. I'm four years of age and only just got my mate. I never thought it would happen."
She listened to him some more, not minding that he was the one doing the talking. After all, if he was silent the entire time, it didn't matter. She could learn more about him by reading his thoughts, even though it was probably the wrong thing to do. He proceeded to chatter about his powers, and she began thinking of what they could be. They only affected him? The only powers that came to her mind were shape shifting, then it was pretty much confirmed when his thoughts said she'd have to ask to know.
Fiametta had gained her powers since she was born, so she had plenty of time to learn to use them as well. Although, it was rather easy to pry into someone else's thoughts, but the trick was learning how to keep herself from hearing things without intention. Of course, that was the hard part when a wolf was as close to her as he was. When there was more than one wolf as close to her as he was, it was easier to stop all of the thoughts from pouring into her mind. That, after all, was the thing stopping her from going crazy.
Fiametta turned her head to him and smiled, "What is your power?"

He knew she was telling the truth, or at least she wanted to believe she was telling the truth though at this moment in time he wasn't so sure. His light blue eyes returned to the floating orbs above his head as he smiled at them before glancing over at her once more when she asked what his power was. He couldn't help but laugh a bit when she said exactly what he had been thinking. At first he wasn't sure he liked the fact she could read his thoughts because he had to be careful what he was thinking around her. But now he was starting to like it.
He didn't feel like he had to hide anything from her. Not that he could do a very good job of hiding it from her anyways since all he had to do was think of it and she would know. This female was different than he had thought she would have been but that was him judging which he tried not to do. She was unique and friendly and didn't judge him for what he was thinking. She would make a wonderful friend to have. One would never have to hide anything from her, she seemed like she would be able to keep a secret better than anyone since she probably knew her fair share of secrets.
"I am a shape shifter. I can shift into a hawk which does come in handy sometimes." he answered, smiling over at her. His light blue eyes shone a bit in the cavern as he looked over at her, glad that he had ran into her here. He had very few friends these days and it was always good to have someone to talk to. And he was pretty proud of himself because he hadn't tried to hit on her at all yet. A smile raised the corners of his mouth once more at the thouht.

The inky furred female smirked when she found she was right: he was a shape shifter. There weren't many other powers at all that affected only the user. A hawk shifter at that, which was useful. The ability to escape and or scout out the enemy before revealing himself as a wolf would be a very useful thing. It was also useful in a sense of travel, he would be able to get father and higher faster than if he traveled on land.
"Interesting..." She murmured, pondering what it was like to shift into something besides one's true form. "And I do speak the truth, by the way. You will go through this lifetime with many heartbreaks, but there will be its perks too. Falling in love is one of them." Her mind drifted again, analyzing her own words. She wanted to believe she spoke the truth, for her mother had told her the same thing years ago, before she died. She believed her mother, for she was much older and more experienced.
Truth. It was an intriguing word. Fiametta wanted so desperately to know what lay in everyone's hearts, just not their thoughts. It was weird how she wanted that, for most would think she would be able to find out because of her power. It was quite the opposite, however. Just because someone thought one thing didn't mean it was always the truth. The mind never reveals what the heart says, therefore everything was technically a lie. Things in one's heart were the only true things about themselves, but the mind would never admit those things.

He shrugged as if his power was no big deal, which to him it wasn't a big deal because he had grown up with it and was use to it. But to others it might be more intriguing because they weren't able to shift into something different like he could. His light blue gaze shifted back to the orbs once more, still curious about their origin and their powers but not letting his mind wander too long on the thought because there was no way he could find out any answers to the questions that ran through his head right then.
"Yeah well I don't usually tell or show others that so you have to promise to keep it a secret." he added, talking about his power once more. It was true though, he usually didn't let others see him shifting because he wanted to keep his power a secret. If he needed to use it sometime and others recognized him as a hawk then he could be in big trouble.
When he spoke that, he leaned towards her and nudged her shoulder playfully before sitting upright again. He silently scolded himself for doing that since she was an alphess and he was a simple loner. For all he knew, touching an alpha was an insult or something. Way to go Bristol.

Fiametta wanted to shake her head and laugh at his melancholy, but tensed suddenly when he nudged her. As playful as a gesture as it was, it was still strange and unlikely to come from a loner to an alpha of a pack, especially one whom he had just met. Her muscles were calmed, however, when she heard him cold himself for doing it. She sighed, deciding to tell her mate about him when she returned to camp, but she had something to take care of first.
Fiametta stood up and arched her back, giving it a nice stretch, then proceeded to walk to the orbs. She weaved through them and made sure not to touch them, for she didn't know what would happen if she did. She stopped, turning to face him. "Bristol, I will be sure to tell my fighters to kill you on sight...but only if you cross me." She was sure she had given him a good scare. "You are welcome on this land, but should you betray my trust and my fighters can't get to you first, then I will. Believe me, I am serious and I will kill you if you cross me. However, I am trying to be your friend not your enemy here. You are a loner and I have boundaries. That's how this works, all right?"
Fiametta was unaware if she had scared him off or not. However, only time would tell if he were to come back or not. Speaking of returning, she would have to get back to her pack soon. Reiko and the others must be wondering where she had gone off to by now, if they weren't looking for her already. She made a mental note to only tell her mate about this encounter. She doubted the pack would be happy with it, but Reiko would most likely be the only one to understand. He was her mate, after all.

His light blue eyes remained locked on hers as he waited for what she would say because he had a feeling that it would be very important. Her first phrase confused him as he wasn't sure if he was to be killed for nudging her or what he had done wrong but as she continued on he began to understand what she was saying. She was going to allow him to come on her lands as long as he didn't cross her or betray her. He knew how big of a deal it was for an alpha to willingly let a loner wander her territory and he planned on taking great care in not doing anything to cross her, let alone anger her.
"I understand Fiametta. I promise I will never give you a reason not to trust me. For I would never wish to cross you or betray you. You have my word." he replied, his voice serious as well as he dipped his head low before raising it again and letting his light blue eyes land on her face as he watched her, hoping she would believe he was telling the truth. He couldn't help but wonder why she had given him, a scraggly loner, this great honor. For he thought it was an honor to be able to come onto pack lands without being a part of the pack and to be trusted enough to not take advantage of the rare privilege. Was there something she saw in him that even he didn't see? Or maybe she was just trying to be his friend which in itself was another great honor to have an alphess as a friend. And if that was the case then he definitely didn't want to do anything to put that friendship in danger. He couldn't help but wonder what this thing was. What was he allowed to do? Simply visit their lands? Hunt on their lands? Maybe even stop by and say hello to the pack every now and then? He wasn't sure.

As soon as she had finished talking, she scrutinized his face, taking in every detail possible about the emotions he betrayed on his face when her words finally sunk in. A lot of questions were there, as well as a lot of confusion. It was understandable. It wasn't often that, as an alphess, she would allow total strangers on her land. She supposed she owed somewhat of an explanation to him.
"You are allowed to hunt and sleep on these lands. As for visiting the pack, that may take some time. I have to tell my mate about this encounter first and I'm sure he'll understand." She said to him, trailing off for a moment to nod to herself. "Yes, Reiko is reasonable..." She shook her head and looked at him again. "Just be careful when you're here because my other pack members may not be aware that I have allowed you here. Just explain yourself and I may be called to justify it."
Fiametta walked back around the orbs and moved closer to the exit, watching him carefully. She sighed, "Reiko and the others must be wondering where I am, if they're not already looking for me. I have to leave now. It was nice to meet you, Bristol."
