She was in a dark and furious mood. How could he…! How dare…! She cracked open her jaws and shrieked into the half-light of dawn. Thick wads of snow tumbled off the edges of the bluffs as she shoved onwards, streaking like a blazing fireball of fury. The dawnlight above, its creams and its peaches, seemed to glow tauntingly over her dirty-white fur. The fire that flickered over her seemed to accentuate her infuriation. She didn't even care that she was within sight of the entire realm, that all could see her powers in a rare clarity. Finally it seemed that she had burned out her anger, for the most part at least. Ash sprayed in billowing clouds, its thick smoke winding up invisible chambers that pumped into the heavens. Soot streaked her fur, but it was hardly noticeable; Caustic's pelt was a rainbow of monochromes anyways. Only now they were darker, like some badly scuffed up and abandoned photograph from olden times. It was a fitting color to complement her dark mood. At least, if it were just a touch darker, then she supposed it would match. Caustic sighed, and watched desolately as a mass of gleaming-misty air gathered from her warm breath embracing the cooler temperatures. It floated there, cloudlike, before dissipating into a trickling steam. She then swung her head around and stared out at the glittering, ash-coal sea. Pure, stark white glaciers cut jagged scars in the smoothness of the water. Tiny ripples fanned out from them, though they hardly disturbed the calm. Sighing again, she stumbled down the steep side of the snowy hill, carefully navigating amongst the treacherously jagged ice daggers and slippery stones that seemed to populate the entire icy terrain. Quite bothersome really. At last her paws touched the bottom of the hill. Swiftly, she twitched her head around and crept towards the seawater. She poked a tentative paw at it, jerking back as an icy and clammy sensation gripped the toe that had brushed it. She had not expected the waters to be so chilly. But she supposed they must be. What did she honestly think, that the enormously carved icebergs were actually warming the ocean? As if. Again, she nudged the freezing waters, shivering once again. She withdrew the paw, breathed in once, before submerging herself into the icy waters. Ripples of chill seeped into her fur as she dove in. Her muzzle dipped into an arc, water cascading down her back, which had a pure, silver sheen now. Caustic sloshed through the waters, her paws paddling furious, propelling her to the trail of stepping ice-stones that led to the glaciers. She arched her back, and firmly stuck each front paw onto the stones and wriggled onto them. From there, she easily loped down the line, leaping here, skipping there, and then she touched more solid and sturdy ice. At last. Silence. Nothing but the gentle lapping of the frigid water sliding smoothly onto the jutting ice-rocks. Perfect. No noise. No chaos. No steali— |
