She had not hunted on these lands yet- being a loner had it's disadvantages; one being you were to be constantly on your guard. Having smelled nearby packs- she had yet to ask permission to stray on their lands or the ones they used for the hunt. Zelphia saw no point in it. Why waste the time hoping to be let in, when one could just let themselves in? Besides, the great Opaque One would never let anything happen to her- oh no!
Zelphia laughed- a booming chuckle coming from deep within her chest. Yes, the Opaque One had guided her here, she was sure of it; with the teaches of her grandparents so well ingrained in her mind, there was no doubt she was to be the one to warn of his forthcoming. Eyes, blacker than the abyss, surveyed the land. A quaint piece of work, this place was. She had heard a rabbit, a rabbit of all things!, call this place 'Autumnal Forest'. How she had heard a rabbit talk, was beyond her knowledge. Little did she know it was infact a shapeshifter nosing around in the underbrush.
The land held a scarlet hue- odd, possessed? Did demons walk these lands? Was this to be a test, a test of bravery? Cunning? What was coming for her? Zelphia lifted her eyes to the sky; pupils contracting (though they still looked every large having solid black iris) against the sun, violent rays assaulting her senses. An annoyed sound slipped from her jaws, something along the lines of a quiet 'bah'. If she could have it here way, she would be blind. Then again with her... gift, because of course The Opaque One had willed it upon her, that would make life a bit dangerous. Teleporting and not knowing where in the blue moons one was going to land. The thought was nerve wracking- spine tingling- and exciting all in one.
Dainty paws carried her across a bed of browned leaves- a knarled root- and a twisted branch. The forest, above, was breathtaking- but on the forest floor it was a definate 'charlie fox'. Zel smirked, ears perking upwards- it had been a while since she had heard or used that word. She had it drilled into her head as a young pup- foul language was not to be tolerated, it was a sin. Gums smacked together, a soft growl rising up from her lungs- like a viper ready to strike. Something was on the wind- an unidentified smell, and something that smelled like..."...food". The words slipped from her lips before she had a chance to cut them short. Was she to be blessed with an offering of food? She had finished her 'daily duty' afterall.

This was a new forest to Verdain. The trees did not welcome her presence as they would have in her homelands. It somehow lessened the joy felt abreast when wandering in the woods. There were no whispering remarks or words of the news breathing through these trees. The guardians of the forest towered above her; their life an ominous stirring to Verdain’s attuned senses. The old ones had warned the girl of the welcome she would receive should she choose to leave the place of her origins and move into the unknown. She had felt an urge to leave as the season once again left, replaced by another bout of weather and such happenings. The lady had been well rehearsed in the proper reactions of ‘feelings’. They were a vital source to the connection between life in every ecosystem. So she had allowed herself to be whisked away by the coming breeze- thrown from her home as a seed is ejected from its petal bed. Once again analogies came into play as she found roots in this territory. It was a mystery as to why she felt compelled to remain in place and develop into a sapling here. Perhaps it was as simple as the pleasant view or as complex as a foretelling of the future needs of this particular place. Regardless, the girl was bound by her decision. Neither trees no earth moved without another force acting upon it. This was the ways of her people, the nature of her will, and a personification of the lady’s element all rolled into one action. She was long exercised in the ways of helping the forest thrive. Whatever connection her bloodline had developed allowed Verdain to act as a spider, the woods being her interwoven thread of webs. After complete acceptance into this new world, she would be able to move among the trees unnoticed by those who happen by. Her life force constantly flared in recognition of each plant’s, allowing her to dip into their energy- to give and receive in an endless circuit. This place had yet to give the land over to Verdain’s reins just yet. As such, she had no more power than any other wolf. Even her element of power was miniscule at best without the forest to lend her aid. With the constant hum of energy the forest thrummed with recognized but untapped, she was forced to restore depleted energy by hunting. While fit and robust, she was no great power to take down a deer in its prime. Thus, she was forced to settle for more frequent small meals. She’d started with a vole who had been foolish enough to venture away from the confines of its nest. Later, a rabbit was chased out of its warren by Verdain calling the earth to gather into rock, trapping the creature between a newly found blockade and the exit. It scrambled for the exit in terror, as per planned. It had taken her many moons to perfect that trick. Much practice and more instruction had been required before it had borne results of any kind. The morality of using this power, even in such a small scale, had been analyzed long before leaving her home. She used it only from her own power, similar to an extra claw or a burst of speed others may not have. Taking energy from the trees in order to hunt was revolting to her people, but being able to chase creatures from their hidey-holes was a fine art and well respected should a wolf be capable of achieving the act by itself. The lovely figure of light russet coloration set to the task of crunching and munching. Not much time had passed before she once again hungered. As unsightly and cruel as it seemed, she bothered not to rise from her seat but instead drove another rabbit from its cover using her element once more. Was it abuse? Not particularly, though it certainly counted as laziness. Few had the right to turn haughty noses up at her display, she was a young creature and free to indulge in desires every so often. Morality often strengthens with age. Should she abuse her gift, then let those of power snatch it away. Verdain did her fair share of community service within the shadowed forest. Auds alerted the girl to the stomach gurgle of another wolf nearby. She bothered not with the pleasantries and grandstanding most youths are compelled to. Instead, she offered a short gesture to join the green eyed monster for a snack. Luckily for the stranger, it wouldn’t be her getting munched on today unless she was a complete fool about it.

She didn't need an invitation- what she wanted she took, and she was blessed with what she took. Zelphia, surely didn't need an invitation from a loner such as herself. The wind reeked with the stench- no home, the being didn't belong here. Of course- she didn't belong here either, but she didn't see it that way. Zel couldn't tell if the invitee was male or female, did it really matter? All of them were fair game for her little mind games.
But- where was this beast? It was difficult to tell where the noise had come from in the dense underbrush and knarled roots. The place had an eerie feel to it; if it were not for the wind and bugs- she would have been sure the place was infested with spirits; spirits like her grandparents. She had never been able to commune with them, but she took their knowledge with her as she went- for they were far wiser than her own parents. Her own parents were foolish and blind to the world- oblivious to what the Opaque One had given them, stuck up and wretched in their own way.
The gray female stepped around a downed tree, the smell getting ever stronger. Food- yes, how her stomach ached for it- cried out for the fullness it would bestow upon her; all she had to do was rip it from the fangs of the other. A beast of light russet, so much prettier than a bold rust- it stood out from the dark brown trunks and evergreen colored leaves. The forest made the other look, appealing in a way. Zelphia smacked her gums- staring out from behind a bit of underbrush, wind carrying her scent towards the other. A female- by the looks of the soft curves and proper stature; was munching on it's prey.
Only a little left- Zelphia needed it. The undergrowth shifted- rustling loudly, enough to hopefully draw the attention of the other fae- and then Zelphia was gone. It was if she had never been there, the leaves still clung to her scent and the touch of her glossy fur. Disappeared from plain sight with a soft pop, reappearing momentarily later quite near the feasting girl. Zelphia looked for a moment, nose raised as she smelled crimson blood lingering in the area. A rabbit? The female's mouth watered- a tender rabbit for the taking and oh would she take it!
Zelphia leaned forward, attempting to pry her jaws around the meal; hopefully while the other was wondering why the brush nearby had moved? It was her only hope- her only hope to make an easy meal. How she hated doing things for herself- though stealing from a pretty girl was not on her list right now. Ivory canines nipped at one of the deceased rabbit's feet, maybe tugging it an inch or two. Black eyes were glued on the beast beside her, so close she could see it's lungs filling with air. How sinister she must have looked- eyes like the dead staring up on the girl; lifeless yet so full of mischief.

ooc: 513 words, to Taboo.
How terribly unoriginal- a thief who felt the need to show off instead of gracefully accept the aid offered. She had sensed the wolf’s magic and knew it was either an attack or an attempt to steal the few morsels left on the lean rabbit. Verdain had felt inclined to offer help moments ago, and even a snatching away of her meal didn’t rescind the gesture. She was no wolf to be inflicted with acts of bullying without giving out recourse, but she was not inclined to visit aggression upon this wolf despite the rather irritating actions. She caught a flash of dark eyes, dulled with the affects of hunger before feeling the strange maiden tugging on the dead body of the creature she had recently ended. Verdain released it without struggle though it went against instinct. Her mouth watered, resenting leaving the warmth of the body to another who had rejected kindness and instead opted to waste energy snatching it away. Still, she learned her life lessons from nature and nature frequently permitted thieves to sustain themselves. Was it pity stirring abreast that kept her from rising to retaliate? No, there was a simpler answer to the royal’s reaction. Trees dropped their fruit for those below every season and in this act, Verdain would do the same for a stranger. The earth doesn’t rise to fight back should a fool step on it. It doesn’t register the act as an insult because there was no threat to its survival. This desperate, shifty wolf was certainly capable of inflicting harm upon the girl, but she hadn’t yet attempted it and as such, Verdain held to interest in recourse. She waited a few moments, giving the food stealer time to register she held no grudge. She had the patience of the earth on her side, and it permitted her to react in ways no other wolf would. Her cognitions were simply more akin to element than of beast. “Come here girl.” She didn’t bother to move, nor to chase. That wasn’t in her nature. It implied the instinct to move and she was very much against the action at the moment. She bothered not to even rise from the downward position she had been eating in. There was an unwavering pool of calm beneath those oh so pretty eyes of greenery. The branches of trees could both harm or shelter those within reach. She offered the choices to the complete stranger. It certainly was not out of empathy or kindness, but out of a way of learning so vastly different from wolves not of her pack. The wolf within would have felt an urge to defend its meal from those not of kin, but the element inside had been overly developed, creating a nature akin to her gift. The wolf instinct was ignored, replaced with an invitation that would no doubt be denied. Those of teleportation rarely accepted help from others in Verdain’s own experience. It was well known they were arrogant fools. Certainly this one’s actions so far merely reinforced the prejudiced notion.
